About the song

Song demonstration

I initially published the learning material for this song in November 2020, and have updated the sheet music with a more detailed arrangement including bass runs and keyboard fingering in January 2025.

Ko muzikant od doma roma (Slovenian for “When a Musician Roams from Home”) or Ein Musikant kennt kein Zuhause (German for “A Musician Knows No Home”) is a waltz from the early 1980s, composed by Ingrid (Inge) Huberti (née Campestrini, Brüggemann). A highly influential and versatile Austrian musician, vocalist, lyricist, and yodeler, Huberti was a member of the Slovenian ensemble Slovenski Instrumentalni Kvintet (later Slovenski Muzikantje) or Oberkrainer Sextett Janez Kalšek throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

She composed numerous polkas and waltzes for folk music groups across Austria and Slovenia, many of which became staples in the Alpine folk and Oberkrainer music repertoire. Some of her well-known compositions include: Ko muzikant od doma roma (Ein Musikant kennt kein Zuhause), Veseli Muzikant (Mit Musik), Mladost je kot veter (Vergangene Zeiten). Huberti often published her compositions under the pseudonyms Janez Rakovec or Martin Eichwalder. This waltz was originally performed by Edvin Fliser, a celebrated Slovenian vocalist whose career spanned both Slovenian pop and folk music.

  1. Nicely done Phillip – a beautiful waltz. I’ll definitely buy you a coffee for this one! Done.
Questions – would you have the German lyrics handy. And the Musescore file? Do you use Musescore? My singer can’t reach those high notes – more of a baritone really. I think C will work for him. I can transpose if I have the original file.

And – greetings Gunter from your friend in NZ!

  2. Hallo Phill
Wollte fragen ob das Stück orginal in “F” oder in “Eb” gespielt wird.
Bin mir nicht sicher wie ich es einstudieren soll. 🙂
    Gruß Wolfi
