O skladbi

Predstavitev pesmi

“Gremo v Mengeš” (Slovenian for “Let’s go to Mengeš”) is an instrumental polka by legendary Oberkrainer style accordionist and composer Franc Mihelič from Slovenia. Despite primarily known as a Styrian Diatonic Button Accordion player, this polka was performed by Mihelič on the piano accordion, an instrument on which he was just as virtuosic.

The name of the town in the title, Mengeš, is a Slovenian town in the Gorenjska region (known as ‘Upper Carniola’ in English, or ‘Oberkrain’ in German), a region home to the Avsenik brothers and the birthplace of Oberkrainer music. The town of Mengeš produced two major Slovenian accordion brands used in Alpine and Oberkrainer styles of Folk Music: Melodija Mengeš (most known for their Styrian Diatonic Button Accordions), and Zupan, both of which Mihelič had performed on in different periods of his career.

Like many of Mihelič’s instrumentals, this one is also aimed at the intermediate to advanced player.
