This waltz (which translates to “A waltz for the accordion”) was written by Erich Moser from Austria and recorded in the 1980s with his trio. Erich Moser was a brilliant Steirische Harmonika (diatonic button accordion) player who passed away in 1992 at the age of 37, and left behind a legacy of several albums, many compositions, and a unique style of playing that has inspired many. He was both technically and dynamically brilliant, as demonstrated in the video below. This particular song is one of my favourite waltzes by Moser, which I first heard on a videotape of a 1987 Musikantenstadl (that I shared to YouTube a long time ago). Although he played it on a Steirische Harmonika in C sharp, this obviously becomes difficult to manage on a piano accordion, which is why my piano accordion arrangement has been written in the key of C.
Does anyone else think this waltz has some similarities to French Musette, or is it just me?

Beautiful! I could listen to this all day! I want to learn it but our band’s busy season starts in a few weeks so I will purchase after the season is over (Nov) and then work on it over the winter here in NY. Nice job Phillip!
Hi Eric glad you enjoyed listening to it, and no problem!
Yes, it does have similarities to French musette, in particular Retour des Hirondelles, even the key! See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYGu88N4cRo
Certainly there are other renditions on Youtube of this waltz that have an accordion sounding more like yours but to me the performance here is slower than most others, less “showy”and absolutely nails it in accuracy.
I would like to ask you
1) Is your accordion electronic?
2) Does your sheet music for this piece have two parts? ( I downloaded a freebie but it only had the treble )
Phil
Thanks for your comment. I agree, there are similarities between these 2 songs. After some reflection, I think there’s certainly some similarities between Musette waltzes and Oberkrainer/Volksmusik waltzes.
In response to your questions:
1. My accordion does not have any MIDI, however it does have internal microphones.
2. My sheet music focuses on treble, and only lettering for the bass (instead of a bass clef), to keep the sheet music on 1 to 2 pages. However I include bass runs and alternate basses etc (some of these are visible on the preview image) so that it’s more useful than just standard chord lettering.
I hope this helps!
